Former Florida coach Dan Mullen disrespects Georgia after win over Gators
Former Florida football head coach Dan Mullen continues to make waves in the college football world, even after Georgia football defeated the Florida Gators on Saturday 34-20.
Heading into this weekend's matchup, Mullen released his college football rankings and had Georgia ranked shockingly low at No. 8 behind teams like BYU, Iowa State and Pittsburgh. Fast forward to this week and Mullen still is not giving Georgia the respect they deserve.
Dan Mullen's college football rankings
That's right, Mullen has Georgia ranked all the way down at No. 7, even after they beat his Gators by 14 points.
Now there are definitely teams ranked above Georgia that actually make some sense. As of today, Oregon is the clear No. 1 team in the country, so at least he has that right. But even teams like Miami (FL) and Ohio State have an argument to be above Georgia as well. But BYU? Indiana? Nobody in their right mind thinks either of those teams are better than Georgia.
But to make matters even worse, Mullen has Texas ranked two spots above Georgia at No. 5. Does he not remember that these two teams playes two weeks ago, a game Georgia won convincingly in Austin 30-15? Texas also only has one win since that game, a 3-point victory over Vanderbilt. Surely that isn't enough to convince someone that Texas is actually better than Georgia.
But to make this even more ridiculous, Mullen had Texas as his No. 11 team in his rankings last week. But now he has shot them all the way up to No. 5 after the Longhorns were on a bye this week. That's how you know this ranking should not be taken seriously.
Maybe this is actually how Mullen's feels the college football top 25 should look like. But the better explanation is that he is trying to make Georgia look as bad as possible.
Thankfully his individual ranking won't change what everyone else knows about Georgia. Everyone else can see that Georgia is one of the best teams in the country, and a team that is not worse than BYU, Indiana and Texas.
So at the end of the day, Mullen is only giving UGA extra bulletin board material, so maybe we shouldn't be too upset by this.
