The first Sturday of college football is in the books as week 0 featured a handful of fun games this year. No one in the SEC played during week 0 this season, but that didn't stop Georgia football fans from watching as much football as they possibly could.
While there was one game that featured two ranked opponents on Saturday, UNLV's game against Idaho State drew the attention of some Georgia fans as well. That's because former Bulldog defensive back Jake Pope took the field for UNLV for the first time since leaving Georgia this offseason.
Pope struggled to see the field at Georgia, but he made the most of his move to UNLV by leading the Rebels in tackles during UNLV's 38-31 win on Saturday.
Jake Pope impresses after tumultuous Georgia career
Pope began his career at Alabama where he never saw the field with the Tide. He then transferred to Georgia where he suffered the same fate and watched from the sideline all season long.
Even though Pope never played for Georgia, he did make headlines after UGA's loss to Ole Miss last season. Unfortunately they were not good headlines as Pope was caught celebrating with Ole Miss fans on the field after they upset Georgia. The video of this moment went viral on social media and caused Kirby Smart to call him an "idiot" during his press conference.
Smart later apologized to Pope for this comment, but this moment eliminated any chance Pope would have a successful career at Georgia.
Even though his career at UGA did not go as planned, it is nice to see Pope shine at UNLV on Saturday. During the Rebels win over Idaho State, Pope led UNLV's defense with 10 tackles. So it's clear that his future with UNLV is bright and he can finally put his infamous moment at Georgia behind him.
