Friday night former Georgia running back Nick Chubb announced his retirement from football. This decision came after an impressive four-year career at Georgia and a stellar eight-year run in the NFL.

Chubb unfortunately dealt with a handful of injuries throughout his career both in college and in the NFL, and it appears these injuries are one reason his playing career has come to an end. That however doesn't take anything away from the amazing career that he had that will be remembered by Georgia fans for a long time.

Nick Chubb calls it quits after an amazing football career

Chubb's retirement comes after an amazing 12-year career both in college and in the NFL. His time began at Georgia where he played four seasons, and what a special four years that was.

Chubb ended his career at Georgia with 4,769 total rushing yards. That is the second-most rushing yards in Georgia football history only trailing Herschel Walker who ended with 5,259 yards.

Chubb was also in Athens for Kirby Smart's first two years as head coach, and he played a big role in setting the foundation for what was to come throughout the rest of Smart's tenure. This includes helping lead Georgia to a 2017 SEC Championship victory, Rose Bowl win in the College Football Playoff semifinals and a trip to the national championship game.

Chubb was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft where he spent seven of his eight years. He was a four-time Pro Bowler at Cleveland and was a second tea All-Pro during the 2022 season. His final year was spent with the Houston Texans as a backup running back.

Georgia fans will remember Nick Chubb as one of the greatest RBs in program history

Chubb has the stats and records that will make it impossible to forget about his career at Georgia. His career rushing yards is over 1,100 more than the player with the third-most in Georgia history, so his mark may not be beat for many years if ever.

He will also be remembered for helping Kirby Smart get his career as a head coach off on the right foot. Smart's first season in 2016 wasn't anything to write home about, but instead of heading to the NFL Chubb came back for his senior season, helped Georgia win the SEC and get to the playoff. They ultimately fell short in the national championship game, but Chubb helped show what Georgia was capable of under Smart and led an entire fan base to believe they could win a national title.

Chubb however was just as good of a person as he was a football player. He genuinely cared about all of his teammates and his community both during his time at Georgia and in the NFL with the Browns and Texans. He not only is one of the best football players over the last 10 years at Georgia, but he is one of the better people as well, and that is what makes him special.
