The updated College Football Playoff rankings have been out for three days now, and no, Georgia football fans have not stopped talking about how bad of a job the CFP committee did this week. Did Georgia deserve to fall in the rankings after losing to Ole Miss? Absolutely. Did they deserve to fall outside of the 12-team playoff field? Not at all.
So many national reporters and analysts have commented on how terrible Georgia's ranking is, but Georgia personnel have stayed relatively silent on the discussion so far.
That is until Georgia Athletic Director Josh Brooks had this to say on Thursday during Paul Finebaum's show.
“The committee has had some questions about the consistency of our team. I have some questions about the consistency of their rankings.”
Georgia AD Josh Brooks takes a shot at CFP Committee
Let's first clearly state that the committee was right for having doubts about the considstency of this Georgia team. Every single Georgia fan would agree with that, so there is nothing to be upset about over that.
But the second part of Brooks quote is perfect. It is so great that somebody needs to turn it into a sign for College GameDay's show tomorrow.
And while it is a hilarious jab at the committee, Brooks is 100 percent correct. The best example of how inconsistent the committee has been is how they handled Georgia and Miami (FL) in this week's rankings.
Heading into last weekend, Georgia was the No. 3 team in the country and Miami was No. 4. It's important to note that this was the case even though Miami was undefeated and Georgia already had one loss. Both teams ended up losing on the road on Saturday, with Georgia losing to a ranked Ole Miss team and Miami losing to an unranked Georgia Tech team.
So what did the committee do? They dropped Georgia further down the rankings than they did Miami. Miami only fell five spots to No. 9 while Georgia fell nine spots to No. 12.
And what explanation did the committee give when asked about this? They said Miami is ahead of Georgia because they have one less loss. Interesting. Did the committee not just have Georgia ahead of Miami one week earlier even though Georgia already had one more loss than Miami?
So while there is a lot of truth to the committee's comments about the inconsistent play from Georgia this season, nothing is more inconsistent than how they handled Georgia and Miami after their losses last week.
Let's hope Georgia beats Tennessee this weekend, because it will be very interesting to see how much the committee moves the Bulldogs up their rankings.
