Although the transfer portal does not close until Friday, Jan. 16, we are roughly approaching the halfway point of it... For teams like the Georgia Bulldogs, action better start happening fast! Not only is Kirby Smart's team losing one player after another to the 2026 NFL Draft, but it has not exactly cleaned up in the transfer portal. They only player they have successfully pulled in is Khalil Barnes.
Fortunately for UGA, it seems as though wide receiver Isiah Canion is about to turn heel over to them.
#Georgia has just received a prediction to land Georgia Tech transfer WR Isiah Canion by Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ. 🐶

According to 247Sports, Canion is the No. 6 wide receiver in this transfer portal class, as well as the No. 27 overall prospect nationally. He spent his first two college football seasons out of Warner Robins at Georgia Tech. With his former offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner leaving for Florida and former Yellow Jackets star quarterback George Godsey coming in, it felt like UGA or Florida for him.
This news comes in the wake of receivers like Jaylen Mbakwe and Jayce Brown heading elsewhere.
Isiah Canion to Georgia would create another wrinkle in amazing rivalry
There is no way around it. Losing Canion to arch rival Georgia would be a terrible look for Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key. Getting a talented playmaker in-state over Georgia is always a huge win for the Ramblin' Wreck. However, the rapid deterioration of the Yellow Jackets' offense upon Haynes King exhausting his eligibility, as well as Faulkner and Aaron Philo going to Florida, is being felt now.
For Canion, he has an opportunity to start anew in the second half of his college career. Georgia may be the Yellow Jackets' biggest rival, but what the Dawgs have working for them cannot be denied. That would be plenty of balls to be caught in a high-octane offense with national championship aspirations. Outside of London Humphreys, Georgia's receiving room is largely in flux at this point.
Overall, Georgia usually ends up landing a player or three of Canion's caliber in the portal, almost always a wide receiver. This is not a position group the Dawgs typically recruit well out of high school. Yes, A.J. Green, George Pickens, and Ladd McConkey only played at Georgia, but those are the anomalies when compared to how Georgia has normally operated at this position group recently.
Right now, it seems like it is only a matter of time before Canion lets it be known he is coming to UGA.
