Monday, May 5 quickly turned into the best day of the offseason so far for the Georgia football team. On top of that, UGA’s baseball team also made major headlines as well.
But it’s impossible not to start with the Bulldogs latest football commitment when the news made national headlines.
Jared Curtis commits to Georgia
Potentially the biggest news of the offseason was announced on Monday when five-star quarterback Jared Curtis announced that he was committing to Georgia. This is the second time that Curtis has made this pledge as he originally committed to UGA in 2024 before opening his recruitment again last October.
Curtis chose Georgia over Oregon, which is very significant because the Ducks have been one of the hottest teams on the recruiting trail in the NIL era. But they proved to be no match this time around as Athens is the place Curtis will call home throughout his college career.
Jared Curtis pulls a prank on Kirby Smart
Curtis’s recruitment was as back and forth as any recruitment can possibly be. Both Georgia and Oregon didn’t know who Curtis was going to commit to until Sunday night, when Curtis made a call to Kirby Smart to inform him of his decision.
However, instead of just telling Smart that he was going to pick Georgia, he decided to pull a prank and act like he was telling him he was choosing Oregon. Curtis didn’t let the joke last more than a couple seconds, but it’s quite funny to imagine him pulling this joke on Smart in such a tense moment.
Georgia baseball shoots to No. 1 in the country
While most of the attention on Monday was on Curtis’s commitment, Georgia baseball made some major headlines as well. This past weekend, Georgia traveled to Missouri where they earned a three-game sweep of the Tigers. Sure Missouri is arguably the worst team in the conference, but winning three straight road games will always be a big deal.
And a couple rankings agree with that as Georgia was named the new No. 1 team in the country by Perfect Game and Baseball America.
Postseason play is right around the corner for Georgia as they have two more weekend series remaining in their regular season, but all signs are pointing towards a lot of fireworks from this team once postseason play begins.
