Georgia football once again did not have a great day in the news on Sunday. Not only did they lose another five-star recruitment, but word came out that a current Bulldog was arrested last week.

So let's dive in beginning with the tough loss on the recruiting trail.

Texas beats Georgia for 5-star RB

Texas has gotten in Georgia’s way a few times on the recruiting trail this past week. Unfortunately that happened again on Sunday when the Longhorns earned a commitment from five-star running back Derrek Cooper.

The good news for UGA is that they already have a commitment from four-star running back Jae Lamar in their recruiting class. However, it’s clear that Georgia will want to add another running back out of the 2026 class, so Georgia’s staff is going to have to go back to the drawing board to find their next target.

Georgia offensive lineman arrested

Georgia offensive lineman Jah Jackson was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, July 16. Jackson is now facing multiple charges which includes one felony charge regarding possession of marijuana.

Jackson did post bail a few hours after being arrested, but his status on the team is unclear at this time. With fall camp right around the corner however, Georgia fans will learn soon if he is with the team or not.

Kirby Smart’s best team ever

Georgia has had a lot of elite teams during the Kirby Smart era, but the 2025 team may be Smart’s best. That may seem crazy to say because the media is adamant Georgia will take a step back this season, but looking at the number of blue-chip recruits (four and five-star players) on UGA’s roster this season confirms that sentiment.

Georgia this season will have 72 blue-chip players on their team. This is seven more than the Bulldogs had last year as well as two more than the 2021 team and four more than the 2022 team.

Obviously a talented roster on paper is great, but Georgia will have to prove it on the field for this to matter at all.
