Sunday, March 16 quickly turned into one of the best days of the entire year for Georgia athletics. But that really isn't saying much when one program ended a decade long postseason drought.
So let's jump right in with the three big moments that occurred for Georgia on March 16.
Georgia basketball makes NCAA Tournament
Georgia basketball hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 2015, but that all changed Sunday night when the Bulldogs heard their name called during the bracket reveal. The Bulldogs earned a 9-seed in the Midwest region and will face 8-seed Gonzaga in the first round of the tournament on Thursday.
Likely awaiting the Bulldogs in the second round (if Georgia wins) is 1-seed Houston. However, Georgia has beat some very good teams this year including 1-seed Florida and 2-seed St. John's, so they will not be intimidated by any opponent they face.
Georgia baseball wins first SEC series
Basketball wasn’t the only team to have a good weekend as Georgia baseball stayed hot as well. The Bulldogs entered the weekend with just one loss, which is quite the feat at this point in the season. But this weekend presented Georgia’s biggest test to date as it was their first SEC series of the season.
A top 25 Kentucky team came to Athens, and Georgia got off to a fast start on Friday with a 12-6 win. The Cats evened things up on Saturday with a 10-7 win before Georgia clinched the series on Sunday 17-10.
The big question surrounding Georgia is their pitching as it has left a lot to be desired all season. But the Bulldogs have the bats to go far this season, so if the pitching can improve then Georgia could realistically be a National Championship contender.
5-star QB Jared Curtis wraps up Georgia visit
The most important recruiting visit of the year so far took place over the weekend as five-star Jared Curtis was on campus. Curtis is down to Georgia and Oregon, and this past week marked a big moment in his recruitment as he made extra long visits to both schools.
Georgia insider Jeff Sentell with Dawg Nation shared after his visit to Georgia that Curtis is loving the family vibe and familiarity of the Georgia program. On top of that, Sentell also believes that NIL will not be a big factor in Curtis’s recruitment, which benefits Georgia greatly.
No commitment timeline has been made public yet, but On3 currently lists Georgia as the favorite. Hopefully that is actually the case and Georgia can wrap this recruitment up rather quickly.
