The transfer portal officially opened on Wednesday, so that means the news day for the football program was very heavy. On top of that, a new injury has unfortuantely surfaced in Georgia’s secondary as well.

So let’s jump right in, because the three updates from Wednesday are extremely important.

New football surgery

A new injury for Georgia football has surfaced, and this time it is to redshirt freshman corner Ondre Evans. Nothing was known about his injury before Wednesday, but word came out that he has undergone a successful ACL surgery.

No timeline for a return has been shared, but it’s likely he will be out for quite some time. This is very unfortunate because after a year of not playing, he had a chance to become a solid depth piece for UGA. There is still a chance that happens this fall, but Evans has a lot of work to do to get to that point.

EDGE transfer visiting Georgia

The spring transfer portal window officially opened on Wednesday, and the Bulldogs didn't waste anytime reaching out to those players in the portal. In fact, Georgia already has their first visit scheduled as North Carolina EDGE Beau Atkinson will be visiting the Bulldogs and Ohio State in the coming days.

Atkinson played two seasons with the Tar Heels and is coming off a season where he recorded 7.5 sacks. So considering EDGE is Georgia's position with the most need, this would be a home run acquisition if UGA is able to beat the Buckeyes.

RB Branson Robinson departing Georgia

While the news of Atkinson visiting Georgia is very exciting, the Bulldogs also suffered their first loss to the portal this spring as well. While only losing one player on the first day is very good, it is still sad to see running back Branson Robinson decide to leave the program.

Robinson showed a lot of promise during his freshman season in 2022, but injuries derailed both the 2023 and 2024 season for him. And now that the Bulldogs have found their star running back in Nate Frazier while also finding a promising freshman in Bo Walker, Robinson's departure may be the best for both parties.

No official word has come out as to who is interested in Robinson, but hopefully he is able to find a good landing spot where he can find a lot of suceess.
