What a day June 29 turned into for Georgia athletics. Some new data was released that showed the football team actually has a nice advantage heading into the season, but the big news on Monday all came on the baseball field.
One of Georgia's star players just won the biggest award college baseball has to offer, but before diving into that it's important that fans start revving up the hype train after the impressive day of recruiting that just unfolded on Monday.
Georgia baseball earns No. 1 Transfer Portal class ranking
Georgia baseball isn't looking to settle for just one really good season as Johnson is doing everything he can to help bring even more success to Athens in the coming years.
Expectations are sky high for Georgia after the great year they had in 2026, and those expectations are only going to climb even higher after the impressive haul of transfers Johnson is bringing in. In fact, Georgia currently has the No. 1 Transfer Portal class in the country after they earned four commitments from transfers on Monday.
Will this lead to a lot of success on the diamond next season? Only time will tell, but all signs are pointing to Georgia being a force on the baseball field for years to come.
Star catcher Daniel Jackson wins the Golden Spikes award
Georgia had a remarkable season this year on the diamond. Sure they came up short of winning a National Championship, but the still won the SEC regular season and tournament championship while also making it to the College World Series for the first time in 18 years.
One of the biggest reasons why Georgia was able to accomplish all of this was because of Daniel Jackson who was the Bulldogs' electric catcher this season. He was a force behind the plate while also being a big bat on offense that could steal bases for UGA too. That combination doesn't occur too often with catchers, but Jackson was so good this year that he was named the Golden Spikes Award winner on Monday.

This award is given to the nation's best college baseball player of season, so it is equivalent to the Heisman Trophy in college football.
Jackson is the second Bulldog to win this award as Charlie Condon won it in 2024 as well. Jackson winning this award also makes Georgia one of just seven schools in history to have multiple players win this award.
The SEC gave Georgia a nice advantage heading into the 2026 season
It’s about time that Georgia got the benefit of an “easier” schedule. Sure Georgia’s schedule this season isn’t actually easy, but after playing Texas and Alabama in the regular season the last two years it will be nice for that to come to an end.
On3 recently released the five SEC teams with the most difficult schedules for this coming season. Georgia thankfully wasn't on that list, but Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma were. Why is that relevant? Because those are three teams with a realistic shot to win the SEC.
Sure Georgia still has to go out and win all of their games, but it is nice that they have an "easier" path compared to some of their biggest competitors in the SEC.
