Thursday brought about as much excitement that is possible to have in one day for Georgia football. Not only did they receive some big news on the recruiting trail, but the Bulldogs also had a great showing during the first round of the NFL Draft as well.
So let's dive right in as there is a lot to discuss.
3 Bulldogs drafted in the first round
The first round of the NFL Draft took place Thursday night, and it went exactly how most UGA fans thought it would. Entering the night, most assumed that three Bulldogs, defensive lineman Mykel Williams, linebacker Jalon Walker and safety Malaki Starks, would be selected in the draft. And that’s exactly what happened as Williams was taken by the 49ers, Walker by the Falcons, and Starks by the Ravens.
The highlight by far was the Atlanta Falcons finally drafting someone from Georgia, but all three of these selections were awesome to see and were good reasons for UGA fans to celebrate.
5-star Jackson Cantwell predicted to Georgia
Now it’s time for some news on the recruiting trail, and it doesn’t get any bigger than the news Georgia received on Thursday.
One target UGA has been after for a long time now is five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell. He is the No.1 player in the 2026 recruiting class, so it isn't surprising that he has a long list of suitors. But Georgia has been near the top of his list throughout his recruitment, but many thought they were trailing a few other schools.
That however no longer appears to be the case as On3's Steve Wiltfong predicted Cantwell will commit to Georgia Thursday morning.
Cantwell will be announcing his commitment on May 13, so Georgia still has to hold on to their lead for about two weeks. But as it stands today, things are looking very promising.
Georgia’s improved chances with Jared Curtis
The top recruits in the country love to play with other highly ranked recruits. That is especially true when it comes to quarterbacks and offensive tackles because of how important their relationship is with one another.
So Cantwell being predicted to Georgia could be a good sign for Georgia with the No. 1 QB in the country Jared Curtis. Curtis has a commitment date fast approaching on May 5, and it's currently a close race between UGA and Oregon. But Curtis seeing Cantwell trending to Georgia will only increase the chances that he ends up committing to UGA.
