The LA Rams made a big decision on Thursday that will help Stetson Bennett further his NFL career. On top of that, the No. 1 running back in the 2028 recruiting class just spoke about how high he is on Georgia while Mike Bobo made a questionable coaching decision with Gunner Stockton.
The Bennett news out of LA though might be the news Georgia fans care most about because not only will he have a chance to prove himself in the Rams' first preseason game, but Georgia fans will get a chance to watch one of their favorite quarterbacks take the field on Saturday.
LA Rams name Stetson Bennett their starter over Ty Simpson for first preseason game
The LA Rams named Stetson Bennett their starter at quarterback for their first preseason game of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. 2026 first round draft pick Ty Simpson was originally expected to get the nod, but head coach Sean McVay is riding with Bennett at least for their first preseason game.
Bennett and Simpson have been battling all offseason to be the Rams' backup quarterback this season. Word out of training camp from local reporters indicated that Bennett was leading that battle, and this decision proves that.
NFL analysts believe the Rams will let Bennett walk after this season when his contract expires and ride with Simpson regardless of how this year unfolds. A team typically won't turn their back on a first round pick after just one year, so Bennett will likely be looking for a new team next offseason. Starting this preseason game will give him the perfect opportunity to show NFL teams next offseason why they should sign him and give him a chance to be their starter.
Saturday is important as well for Bennett to cement himself as the Rams' backup. Matthew Stafford is their starter this year, but the Rams' backup may get a chance to play during the regular season in blowout games or if Stafford gets hurt. That would be another chance for Bennett to show NFL organizations why they should sign him next year, so playing well on Saturday is extremely important for his future in that regard.
Georgia football has clear lead for nation's No. 1 RB Kevin Hartsfield
Kevin Hartsfield is the No. 1 running back in the 2028 recruiting class, and a recent interview with him shows that Georgia may have a clear lead in his recruitment. Not only is he from the state of Georgia, but he himself said that it will be difficult to turn Georgia down.
On top of that, he has been seen wearing Georgia gear almost every time he is spotted in public.
Georgia already has the commitment from the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class (Kemon Spell), so the Bulldogs have the unique opportunity to bring in the nation's best running back two years in a row. That would give Georgia a chance to have one of the best backfields in the country, especially when adding in five-star quarterback Jayden Wade who is the No. 1 QB in the 2028 class who is already committed to Georgia.
Mike Bobo's advice for Gunner Stockton missed the mark
Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo spoke with the media on Wednesday, and he opened up about one piece of coaching advice that he shared with Gunner Stockton that did more harm than good. He was working with Stockton on being more willing to take deep shots down the field, but he told him that he's "not Josh Allen" and is incapable of making certain throws.
Josh Allen is one of the best NFL quarterbacks in the country, so it goes without saying that Stockton isn't as good as him, but it doesn't make a lot of sense for Bobo to say that to him. It also is hard to understand why he would tell Stockton straight up that he isn't able to make certain throws.
Bobo's goal was for Stockton to know that he can't force the ball down the field too much. While he and Kirby Smart want him to take more chances he still needs to be careful to not force the issue, but Bobo probably could've gotten that point across in a much better way.
