Kevin Hartsfield is the No. 1 running back in the 2028 recruiting class. Georgia has a clear advantage in his recruitment because he is from the state of Georgia, but it gets even better than that. Hartsfield himself has said that it will be tough to pass on Georgia, and he also is seen wearing Georgia gear nearly every time he is spotted in public.
“The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder acknowledges it will already be hard to say no to Georgia,” Jeff Sentell said via dawgnation.com. “It seems like he’s always repping some variant of UGA team gear when he’s competing.”

The above quote makes it clear as day that Georgia is one of Hartsfield's top schools. In fact, it gives off the feeling that Georgia could be No. 1 on his list right now. Just because that is the case though doesn't mean they will end up earning his commitment.
Since he is the No. 1 running back in the country that means he will have many of the top schools pursuing him. This includes Alabama, Miami, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Texas who are just a handful of schools to have offered him a scholarship.
But even with all these big name programs pursuing him he himself thinks it will be difficult to pass on Georgia. Kirby Smart and his staff will still have to work hard to earn his commitment, but as it stands today they should love their chances.
Georgia could be the perfect place for Kevin Hartsfield's development
Hartsfield recently spoke about how he views himself as a player, and everything he said fits in perfectly with the vibe at Georgia. Smart wants elite players who are more focused on their development instead of how much money is in their bank account, and it's clear that is how Hartsfield thinks.
“With my film, I’ll watch it,” Hartsfield said. “I don’t really like it. For me, I’m a person who wants to be perfect in everything. So when I watch my film, I just look at it. I’m like, ‘I’m not seeing what they all be seeing’ when they be saying this and saying that. I just see the little things I could be doing better. Like I had the ball in the wrong hand. Or even though I scored, I could have made this cut and that run would have been even better.”
He continued by discussing what he expects it to be like when he gets to college, and his next comment also shows that Georgia would be an excellent choice for him.
“When I go to college, there’s going to be somebody there that once had the same No. 1 by their name or the same five stars by their name,” Hartsfield said. “So for me, it’s not really something.”
It's funny that he phrased this statement in this way because Georgia has the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class (Kemon Spell) already committed. Spell has other schools pursuing him as well, but so far he has remained loyal and intends to play college football in Athens.
Sometimes recruits can be turned off from a school if other elite players at their position are already going to that school, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Hartsfield. Spell heading to Georgia seems like it won't scare him away, and that is great news for Smart as he continues his pursuit.
