LA Rams head coach Sean McVay proved this week that he doesn't believe in Stetson Bennett. Even though all reports have indicated that Bennett is the leader in the Rams backup quarterback competition he is continuing to back the Rams first round draft pick Ty Simpson instead.
McVay's recent comments show that Bennett might not have a future in LA regardless of how he plays this season.

LA Rams head coach Sean McVay appears to be backing Ty Simpson ahead of Stetson Bennett. Bennett has been leading the backup quarterback competition, but this week McVay publicly spoke about how Simpson just needs more time to learn their playbook and get used to being in the NFL.
This implies that he believes Simpson will eventually win the backup job over Bennett, and it sounds like that’s what he hopes happens.
Bennett however is winning that competition right now. It’s important for him that it stays that way all season because with this being the final year of his contract he needs to show the Rams and any other NFL team out there why they should give him a chance next offseason when he's a free agent.
When the Rams drafted Simpson in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft they made it clear that they didn’t fully believe Bennett was part of their future. That could even remain the case if Bennett outperforms Simpson all season, but Bennett has always thrived when his back is against the wall and that is where he finds himself right now.
Kemon Spell hilariously shot Miami's flip attempt down
A new report surfaced this week that Miami was aggressively pursuing five-star Georgia running back commit Kemon Spell. Then just a few hours later Spell proclaimed that he wasn’t interested and is remaining a Bulldog.
It isn’t surprising to see Spell be courted by other schools. He is the No. 1 running back in the 2027 class and with that comes a lot of attention from other schools. Miami just so happened to be the latest school to show interest, and within a few hours Spell said “no thanks.”
Georgia still has four months to go before Spell can sign with them. They likely will have to hold off more flip attempts until December when Spell can sign, but for now he seems locked in with Georgia.
Mike Bobo is already making true freshman Kaiden Prothro change positions
Kaiden Prothro was recruited to Georgia as a tight end. He didn’t last long at that position though as Mike Bobo has already switched him to wide receiver during the first day of fall camp.
Porthro was one of Georgia’s five-star recruits in the 2026 class. When he was being recruited he was looked at as a tight end because of his massive 6’6’’ frame, but in high school he also played wide receiver. Georgia planned on playing him at both positions when he got to campus, but it looks like Bobo wants him focusing on wide receiver for now.
That is a smart choice for a lot of reasons. First is the fact that Georgia’s tight end room is already loaded with talent throughout the depth chart. Prothro could struggle to find playing time this year, but those struggles will be less likely to exist at wide receiver where Georgia has a lot of youth and inexperience.
While Prothro is tall, he hasn’t quite filled out his frame yet. That is a problem if he needed to block defensive lineman with Georgia’s offensive line, but that isn’t a problem if he’s out wide.
For the upcoming season it seems like Bobo will be using him more as a wide receiver. Throughout his career he more than likely will play tight end at some point, but for his freshman season this fall it looks like he’ll be focusing on wide receiver.
