Georgia football is about one week out from their season opener, and their odds to win the SEC have never been better. An interesting trade scenario for Stetson Bennett has also recently been floated around while Kirby Smart has reportedly been making a small, yet big, change to the Bulldogs practice schedule.
The football world is beginning to heat up with college football and NFL being so close to returning, and the good news is that Georgia, for the first time in a few years, is entering the season as the favorite to win the SEC.
Georgia’s SEC Championship odds improve one week before the season begins
Since the end of July Georgia has been the betting favorite to win the SEC. Now with just one week to go Georgia’s odds to win the SEC are continuing to improve as they just rose to +280, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Texas isn’t too far behind at +320, but after them there isn’t another team in the SEC even close to Georgia or the Longhorns.
Vegas believes the winner of the SEC will be decided between Georgia and Texas. In reality there are a handful of teams who are more than capable of winning the conference this year, but entering the season it is Georgia who is the clear betting favorite.

Stetson Bennett to Cleveland is a trade Georgia fans should want
Stetson Bennett is trending to be the Rams's backup quarterback this season, but many NFL analysts believe there is little hope for him getting resigned after this year when his contract expires because they think the Rams will ride with rookie Ty Simpson as their future quarterback.
Instead of just letting Bennett walk at the end of the season, the Rams could trade him during the year to at least get something for him. There are a few teams out there that could be interested, but a reunion in Cleveland with Todd Monken makes a lot of sense.
The Browns just announced Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback for this season, and this came just days after their fans boo'd him off the field. Cleveland also has Shedeur Sanders as well, but he hasn't proven he is a legit long-term option either. Bennett however has shown in the preseason that he may deserve a chance to make it as a starter, and the Browns could give him that chance.
Former Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken is the Browns' head coach now as well. He and Bennett helped Georgia win their two national championships in 2021 and 2022, so seeing them reunite in Cleveland would be fun for Georgia fans to watch.
Kirby Smart changed how Georgia practices in hopes of more CFP success
Georgia hasn’t won a playoff game since their 2022 national championship. After failing to make the playoff in 2023 they had back-to-back years of losing their first game in the playoff in 2024 and 2025. That isn’t good enough at Georgia, and Kirby Smart is trying to figure out how to fix it.
One thing he’s fallen on that he’s hoping is the solution is decreasing the amount Georgia practices. That may sound crazy at first, but Smart has shortened each practice during fall camp in hopes this will help Georgia be more fresh when the playoff begins at the end of the season.
Georgia is still practicing their normal amount of days, and they most likely are only taking away about 10 or 15 minutes of each practice. Smart however is desperate to make a deep CFP run again, and he thinks practicing a little less will help them accomplish that.
