Every Georgia football fan loves Dan Jackson. There really aren’t better stories that encapsulate what it means to be a Bulldog than what Jackson went through to become the star that he is today.

Jackson is now in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and was preparing for his rookie season, but unfortunately he went down on Sunday with what is being reported as a significant leg injury.

Dan Jackson’s story is far from over

After going from a walk-on to a full time starter at Georgia, Jackson was drafted late in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. This came after Jackson was not invited to the 2025 NFL Draft Combine, so the fact he was still drafted is nothing short of amazing.

Jackson had a lot to prove if he wanted to make the Lions 53-man roster this season let alone be someone that received a lot of playing time. Thankfully he was doing just that as he was predicted to make Detroit’s final regular season roster.

That however became up in the air after initial reports indicated that Jackson suffered a leg injury that occurred on Sunday that has now found him out indefinitely and being placed on Injury Reserve (IR).

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell was asked about Jackson’s injury, and he shared, "It doesn't look good," said Campbell via si.com. "We are sending this out to a few more places, but it looks like he is going to be down for a while."

It’s hard to say what happens next for Jackson with the Lions. His season outlook solely depends on how long Jackson is out which is still unknown at this time. However, it sounds like it could be for a long time which means he’ll likely miss all season even if he could get healthy enough to make a return by the end of the year.

The good news for Jackson though is that he’ll at worst have a few more years he will be in Detroit after he recovers from this injury. And knowing how resilient he is, it won’t be surprising to see Jackson work through this injury and become a regular in the NFL soon.
