Georgia football can end all hope for Florida Gators
The Florida Gators did not get off to a good start this season. Expectations were not very high for this team going into the season, but most Florida fans probably hoped to be in a better spot at this point in the season.
The Gators started their season 1-2 with blowout losses to Miami and Texas A&M. Both teams are currently in the AP Poll's top 10, so they really aren't bad losses, but the manner in which Florida lost those games is troubling for Gators' fans.
But ever since their loss to Texas A&M, Florida has gotten very hot. Florida enter the showdown this Saturday winners of three of their last four games, and the one loss was in overtime at Tennessee. So what was a poor start to the season has now turned into a season where Florida once again has some hope.
But this is where Georgia comes into play. The Bulldogs enter Saturday's game No. 2 in the country and near the top of the SEC standings. This game is extremely important for many reasons, mainly as Georgia looks to make the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoffs. But there is another reason out there that I'm sure is on the minds of a lot of Georgia football fans.
Derailing Florida's season
As mentioned, Florida is playing extremely well recently and are one of the hottest teams in the SEC. But Georgia has the exciting opportunity to put an end to that. Imagine for a second what a dominant win by UGA on Saturday would do to Florida. This would put thoughts into their heads about how far away they truly are from competing with the best teams in the country.
And that is something all Georgia fans want Florida to feel.
Looking ahead to the rest of Florida's schedule, you will quickly see how a loss on Saturday really hurts their chances of making a bowl game as well. Florida enters this game 4-3 overall, so they only need two wins just to make a bowl game. But let's take a quick look at who is left on their schedule after Georgia.
Texas, LSU, Ole Miss and Florida State.
At this point it's likely that Florida will beat the Seminoles in their season finale, but the other three teams will all be heavy favorites against Florida, just like Georgia is. So assuming Florida does beat Florida State at the end of the season, the Gators need to find just one more win this season to make a bowl game. But with how good each of the other teams are on their schedule, that is far from a guarantee.
The last thing Georgia fans want is to be the team that helps Florida make it to a bowl game. Georgia fans actually would love nothing more than to be one of the reasons why the Gators failed to make a bowl game.
And in order to help make that happen and derail Florida's season, Kirby Smart and Georgia need to win this game. Better yet, they need to win by a lot to crush any remaining hope Florida has for the rest of their season.
