Georgia football has been on fire on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. Just yesterday the Bulldogs earned a commitment from a top 50 prospect in the 2025 class, which vaulted Georgia’a class to the No. 1 spot on 247Sports.

Everything has been going Georgia’s way recently, especially after this big commitment and UGA’s win against Tennessee last weekend. But all good things must come to an end, and that’s exactly what happened to Kirby Smart and Georgia on Thursday.

5-star QB Julian Lewis

Five-star QB Julian Lewis is one of the top players in the entire country. Lewis had been a long time USC commit, but he recently backed off of that commitment and opened his recruitment up.

Two schools immediately rose to the top of his list as Colorado and Georgia became the heavy favorites to win this recruitment. Colorado hosted Lewis on an official visit first and immediately began receiving official predictions on 247Sports to win this recruitment.

But that didn’t stop Smart and his staff from giving it their best effort. Lewis was at Georgia’s game this past weekend against Tennessee, so he did give the Bulldogs a fair chance to win this battle. Unfortunately Georgia came up just short and Lewis announced his commitment to Colorado on Thursday.

However, this isn’t the end of the world for Georgia. They do still have a commitment from four-star Ryan Montgomery who is a great player as well. But still, Smart is pushing hard for a second QB in this recruiting class, and it appears there is still one more five-star QB out there that UGA is pursuing.

Five-star Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele will visit Athens for their season finale against Georgia Tech next week, so we’ll have to wait and see how that visit goes. But the worst scenario is Georgia ending up with only Montgomery in their class, which is far from a bad thing considering how talented he is.
