Georgia football opens as massive favorite over Tennessee

Every game is extremely important here on out for Georgia football in their quest to win an SEC and National Championship. One more loss could eliminate the Bulldogs' chances at accomplishing either, so every game the rest of the seson needs to be treated with as much importance as possible.

However, there is one game on the schedule that stands out above the rest. And that is Georgia's upcoming game against Tennessee.

Georgia doesn't face Tennessee until Nov. 16, but that hasn't stopped the sportsbooks from releasing their opening betting lines for this game already.

Georgia football vs. Tennessee early odds

As of 5:00 pm EST on Oct. 29, Georgia is a 10.5 point favorite over Tennessee according to FanDuel. The over-under is also set at 53.5 points as well.

What do these odds tell us?

Georgia being this large of a favorite is honestly very surprising. Tennessee are the No. 7 team in the latest AP Poll rankings, and have a 6-1 (3-1) record this season. This includes a 24-17 win against Alabama in their last game.

But even though all of that is true and Tennessee is clearly a very good team, the sportsbooks are very high on Georgia. Maybe that is because of how great Georgia looked in their win against Texas. Or maybe home field advantage is playing a large factor in their decision. Either way, FanDuel is very confident that Georgia will come away with a win in this game.

And that win is extremely important. Tennessee and Georgia are currently tied in the SEC standings with one loss, and looking at Tennessee's remaining SEC opponents (Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt) there is a good chance they win the rest of their conference games. So this game will potentially determine who has the edge to make it to the SEC Championship game at the end of the season.

The losing team will also have a more difficult path just to make it into the College Football Playoffs as well.

A loss by Georgia and we could likely kiss their chances goodbye. But hopefully FanDuel is correct with their odds and Kirby Smart's squad wins this game in a few weeks.
