One of the top recruits Kirby Smart and Georgia football are after is running back Savion Hiter. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Hiter is the nation’s No. 1 ranked running back in the country. He also is the No. 17 overall player in the country and the top ranked player from his home state of Virginia.

Not only is Hiter one of Georgia’s top targets on the recruiting trail, the Bulldogs are also one of his top teams as well. Hiter has been to Athens a couple times on visits and he also just recently put Georgia in his top four schools.

While this is all great news for Georgia as it shows they still have a chance to win this recruitment, an unfortunate update in this recruitment was shared by On3’s Steve Wiltfong on Wednesday.

Georgia still trails Michigan

According to Wiltfong, Michigan is still the team to beat in Hiter’s recruitment. This is something that Hiter himself has shared publicly in the past, but the hope was that over the last few months things would have changed by now. Unfortunately for Georgia however that was not the case.

There is still some good news for Georgia because Hiter has not yet shared when he intends to announce his commitment. So it’s very likely that he will take his official visits this summer to all four of his finalists, with his trip to Georgia taking place on June 6.

So even though Smart and his staff have some ground to make up, they have at the very least about three and a half months to do just that. And with as crazy as recruiting is nowadays, there definitely is a chance that Georgia could finish on top in this recruitment and bring the best running back in the country to Athens for the next few years.
