Georgia is gearing up to open SEC play on the road against Arkansas this weekend. This matchup by all accounts should be one of the most lopsided matchups in the SEC this season, but the Bulldogs will still have to show up and play well if they want to win.
Georgia and Arkansas is a matchup in the SEC that hasn't happened too many times. In their history they have only played 16 times and Georgia holds a 12-4 edge in the series. Most college football fans might assume that Georgia would've had a larger lead, but due to the lack of times these teams have played they only have an eight game lead over the Razorbacks.
Georgia looks to extend series lead over Arkansas
Georgia is riding a three game win streak against Arkansas. The Razorbacks however haven't beat Georgia since 2010, so it's coming up on two decades since they've celebrated a win over UGA.
The goal for Georgia this week is simple, beat Arkansas and make it look easy. They are favored by more than three touchdowns so they are expected to win without breaking much of a sweat, but it is hardly ever that easy on the road in the SEC. Even Kirby Smart knows this game could be a close battle if Georgia isn't mentally prepared.
Georgia however will look to make it four straight wins over Arkansas while moving to 3-0 this season. Anything less than a comfortable win would be a bit disappointing, but the only thing that truly matters is winning this game and extending their series lead over Arkansas to nine.
Georgia throttled Arkansas the last time they played
The last time Georgia and Arkansas met was on Oct. 2, 2021. This game took place in Athens and Georgia held the No. 8 Razorbacks scoreless in a 37-0 beat down.
Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett had a quiet day as he only completed seven of 11 passes for 72 yards. The Georgia run game was dominant though as they ran for 273 yards with four different running backs rushing for at least 48 yards. Zamir White found the end zone two times while Kendall Milton scored one touchdown of his own.
Georgia's special teams got involved too as they scored the Bulldogs only other touchdown on a blocked punt.
Georgia fans knew they had a good team heading into this game, but this dominant victory against a top 10 opponent is what put the college football world on notice for what was possible. This squad ended up losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship game later this year, but they got their revenge in the College Football Playoff National Championship as they won their first national title under Kirby Smart.
This week's matchup doesn't have the same hype that the one in 2021 did, but it is still an important game to win because a loss would significnatly decrease their chances of winning the SEC and making the College Football Playoff.
Kickoff between Georgia and Arkansas is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 at Noon EST.
