Georgia basketball is fresh off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time under head coach Mike White. With the NCAA Tournament expanding the minimum expectation is for his squad to get back to the Big Dance once again, but fans will want to dream much bigger than that.
Georgia needs to win a game in the NCAA Tournament, but before they do that they need to put themselves in a better position to make a run by earning a better seed. The last two years they found themselves in the dreaded eight vs nine matchup which makes it nearly impossible to get to the second weekend of the tournament.
The only way for Georgia to earn a better seed is by having a better regular season, and they will have a golden opportunity to build a better resume this year because they will face Duke this coming season in a big non-conference tilt.

Georgia to face Duke in massive non-conference battle in 2026
Duke is as good as it gets in college basketball. They are seemingly in the hunt to win a National Championship every season and that most likely won't be changing next year.
Georgia's goals are much lower than the Blue Devils, but the best way to reach those goals is by seeing how they stack up with a Blue Blood like Duke. And what better place to face them than The Mecca of Basketball that is Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Georgia will be massive underdogs in this game, but imagine a scenario where they pull off this win. That would propel them high up the rankings and help them earn a much better seed that would give them a good chance to make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
A loss in this game wouldn't hurt either because unlike the CFP committee the NCAA Tournament selection committee actually values strength of schedule.
Regardless of how this game might go, this is a chance for White to show that a new era of Georgia basketball is ready to begin.
Mike White is ready to welcome Georgia to a new era of basketball
Last week Georgia's basketball program received a gigantic $10 million donation. This is the largest donation in Georgia athletics history that White will be able to use to help strengthen his roster going forward.
White won't get to spend this money until next year since this season's roster is already set in stone, but beating Duke would go a long ways in attracting the best recruits and transfers to Athens for years to come.
Georgia's talent level should increase regardless of this outcome once White starts spending this money, but all it takes is one win against Duke for his program to really take off. It may seem unlikely, but Georgia will only be 40 minutes away from announcing their arrival to the college basketball world when they lace them up against the Blue Devils this year.
The date for this game will be determined later, but fans can expect this matchup to be played in November or December this year.
