Georgia suffered one of the biggest upsets of the college football season last week at home against Auburn. This defeat set their season back slightly, but they still have all their goals in front of them and in their control.
Georgia could always use a little help though to make accomplishing their goals (winning the SEC and making a run in the CFP) a little easier, and this weekend while on their bye they should be hoping for as many upsets to happen as possible.
The three teams Georgia needs to lose the most
Ole Miss, Kentucky and Tennessee are the three teams Georgia should want to see lose the most this weekend. They are the three other teams tied with Georgia at the top of the SEC standings with one loss, so if they lose UGA's chances of making it to Atlanta will increase.
Kentucky hosts Vanderbilt this weekend so it's unlikely they lose. Ole Miss however travels to Texas which is a great opportunity for them to add another loss. Tennessee on the other heads to South Carolina which seems like a game they should easily win, but Vegas actually predicts the Gamecocks will win by a couple points.
It would be a perfect Saturday for Georgia if all three of these teams lost. It's unlikely that will occur, but there's a good chance at least one of these teams loses this weekend.
Upsets across college football would be good for Georgia
Some other upsets across college football this weekend could help Georgia as well. LSU and Alabama are both still in the SEC Championship hunt even with two losses, so if they dropped their games this weekend that would essentially eliminate them from contention. Both are heavy favorites in their matchups, but anything is possible.
There are a handful of games outside of the SEC that can impact Georgia in the CFP picture as well. Georgia doesn't need any help when it comes to qualifying for the playoff, but they could use as much help as they can get when it comes to seeding since their loss to Auburn hurts their resume.
No. 1 Miami and No. 2 BYU are both undefeated. They are favored to win this weekend but a loss from either team should see Georgia move back above them in the rankings. Then there are teams like Indiana, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC and Iowa who all play this weekend who are in the playoff picture as well. They are all ranked behind Georgia so seeing them lose isn't that important, but in the event Georgia loses another game this year it would be good for all these other teams to have more losses as well.
At the end of the day it may not actually matter what happens this weekend. As long as Georgia keeps winning then they will make the SEC Championship game and CFP, but it doesn't hurt to get a little help along the way as well.
Game odds adjust periodically and are subject to change.
