Georgia football has now been linked with what seems like at least 10 wide receivers in the transfer portal. But should that surprise anyone after the struggles this unit faced this entire season?
At times this transfer portal season it has felt impossible to know who Kirby Smart's top targets are, but that appears to be taking shape now after a few recent developments on the recruiting trail. For starters, Georgia received multiple predictions for Kentucky transfer wide receiver Dane Key on Thursday. News also came out on Friday morning that star USC transfer receiver Zachariah Branch is visiting Georgia on Friday as well.
So those two receivers seem to be the top targets for Smart at this position, but there is a third name that Georgia's been linked with that is worth monitoring now as well.
Miami (FL) transfer WR Isaiah Horton
Isaiah Horton is a transfer wide receiver who spent the last three seasons with Miami (FL). Horton is fresh off his best season by far that saw him record 56 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. But it was after this season that Horton decided to enter the portal where 247Sports now ranks him as a four-star transfer.
On Thursday, Pete Nakos with On3 reported that Georgia is expected to bring Horton in on an official visit in the future. Horton is also expected to visit Alabama and Texas A&M as well.
At this point it is likely that Horton is at best option number three for Smart and his staff at wide receiver. It's unclear how many receivers Georgia would take out of the portal, but if Key and Branch both commit to Georgia then there is almost no chance that Horton would as well.
Regardless, bringing Horton in on a visit is a big deal because you never know what a player will do until they actually commit to Georgia. So hopefully this visit goes well, so if Georgia ends up missing on Key and Branch then they have Horton as another option available to them.
