Georgia will face their second night game of the season when they play Ole Miss this weekend. The only problem is that both of those night games have been on the road with the first coming at Alabama.
The Bulldogs still have two more home games this year, but their season finale against Georgia Tech seems unlikely to be given a night slot. That leaves next weeks game against Missouri as their best chance for their one and only home night game this year, but the SEC so far is refusing to give it to them.
The SEC announced on Monday that Georgia’s matchup with Missouri next week will either be played at 3:30 or 7:30 pm EST on Saturday, Nov. 14. The other matchup in contention for the night game is Texas at LSU, and if history tells us anything it’s that LSU will be gifted yet another night game instead of Georgia.
Georgia and Missouri must win this weekend to improve their chances at a night game
Since the start of the SEC’s new media rights deal in 2024 the Bulldogs have only had four home night games. This is tied for the least amount in the entire conference which doesn’t make a lot of sense considering Georgia is the only team to win the SEC since this new media deal began.
LSU on the other hand has played a whopping 16 home night games since 2024. Since Georgia hasn’t played any night games at home this year one would think they’d be given that opportunity against Missouri next week, but the SEC hasn’t given them that game time yet. Instead they are waiting to decide the game times for these two matchups until after this weekends games.
If Georgia wants a home night game they better hope they and Missouri win this week. That, along with losses from Texas and LSU, would give them their best chance at a night game, but if the SEC wants to do the right think they’d let Georgia have the night slot regardless.
LSU could get the night game that Georgia deserves
Lane Kiffin is furious heading into their matchup against Alabama this weekend because it isn’t at night. The SEC gave them a 3:30 game time for their rivalry matchup against the Crimson Tide, and he felt disrespected they wouldn’t let this game be at night.
Georgia’s matchup with Ole Miss got the night slot instead, but considering LSU’s had 16 of 19 home games since 2024 played under the lights it’s a bit insane for him to complain.
Kiffin likely will be just as upset if they don’t get a night game against Texas next week. LSU however has had plenty of home night games this year, four to be exact, while Georgia’s had zero, so the Bulldogs deserve the night slot over them.
LSU also hasn’t been a true contender to win the SEC over the last few years, and if Georgia wins this weekend in Oxford they’ll still be the favorite to win the conference and deserve the night slot over them.
