Georgia and Miami have quickly turned into unofficial rivals over the last few years. They have been battling each other on the recruiting trail quite often, and they have even been stealing recruits from each other as well.
The tipping point in this “rivalry” though was when Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami last offseason. That one move caused Georgia and Miami to be compared to each other all season, and unfortunately Miami got the last laugh in the College Football Playoff.
Georgia, Kirby Smart have no choice but to add Miami to their schedule
Fast forward to this offseason and Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and Kirby Smart have been stirring up even more drama. And that leaves Smart and Georgia no choice but to schedule a home and home series with the Hurricanes.
Smart and Cristobal both attended a ceremony Monday night to honor the best defensive freshmen in the country. During that ceremony they both took turns hopping on the mic and taking playful jabs at each other. This included Smart making fun of Miami for never winning the ACC and Cristobal calling Smart a bad coach for being unable to make a run in the playoff with Beck.
These jabs they traded were made in a playful manner, but it has left fans wanting them to settle it on the field. So that leaves Smart no choice but to schedule a home and home series against Miami.
Georgia's schedule is pretty full for the next decade. They have home and home series already scheduled with Ohio State, Clemson (twice) and Florida State, and now that the SEC is playing nine conference games every year it gives them less opportunities to play good non-conference teams. But if Smart and Cristobal were smart they would play off these viral moments and schedule their teams to settle it on the field.
