Friday will be here before you know it. In the meantime, do not be surprised to see even more changes coming by way of the transfer portal. The two-week window of this transactional period in college football is coming to a close on Friday, Jan. 16. For now, transfer portal classes are starting to come together, with the last few stragglers trying to find new teams that they can go play for in 2026.
We can add former Georgia offensive tackle backup Jamal Meriweather to the list of on the way out.

The 6-foot-7, 305-pound offensive tackle from Brunswick appeared in 12 games this season. The former three-star prospect has been with Georgia since the 2023 recruiting class. He will have at least one more year of eligibility to be had. With Meriweather being this late of a transfer portal entrant, one would be able to connect the dots that he already knows where he is going to end up at.
Conversely, this may also signify that a better player could be coming to Athens in the portal as well.
Georgia loses offensive tackle Jamal Meriweather to the transfer portal
The news of Meriweather hitting portal comes in the extended wake of cornerback Dominick Kelly hitting the portal. To have waited until the final days the transfer portal was open to enter it speaks volumes. As is the case with Meriweather, Kelly probably knows where he is going to end up at. Then again, there are many players who end up hitting the portal that do not find a seat in musical chairs...
At this stage of the game, Meriweather has spent plenty of time in Athens vying for more playing time. While he did play in 12 games this past season, he was not a starter up front for the Dawgs. Keep in mind Georgia's best offensive lineman in left tackle Monroe Freeling has decided to turn pro as soon as he was eligible. One would have thought Meriweather could have competed for the job...
Instead, he enters the portal with a new opportunity on the horizon. Georgia improved down the stretch because of its offensive line play. While offensive line coach Stacy Searels can recruit with the best of them, he is often seen as a scapegoat for many of the low-key issues plaguing Georgia. Not to the degree of Mike Bobo or Glenn Schumann, but probably the third mist criticized assistant at UGA...
For now, let's keep our eyes peeled on where Meriweather could end up at now that he is in the portal.
