Ohio State may be the college football team feeling the worst Sunday morning. Their loss to Texas is the biggest reason why, but Georgia is making progress in their pursuit of Ohio State commit David Jacobs who visited Athens during their 50-point win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Ohio State hit the road this weekend to take on Texas. They had the Longhorns on the ropes as they led 23-3 in the fourth quarter, but Texas stormed all the way back to beat them by one. This is a game Ohio State will feel they should've won entering the fourth quarter, so that fact alone will make this loss difficult for them to overcome.
This defeat is the biggest reason why Ohio State might be feeling down on Sunday, but Georgia's progress with David Jacobs has to be a contributing factor as well.

Georgia isn't giving up on 5-star Ohio State commit David Jacobs
Jacobs not only is the No. 1 player from the state of Georgia, but he is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class. He is a five-star EDGE who Georgia aggressively targeted throughout his entire recruitment, but he ultimately committed to Ohio State last December.
Georgia and Jacobs haven't been publicly linked since his commitment, but on Saturday he showed up to Athens to take a visit with his younger brother. It's unclear if Georgia actually has a realistic chance to flip him or not, but this could be the start of what would be the biggest recruiting win of the 2027 cycle for Kirby Smart and Georgia.
Ohio State more than likely has a more competitive NIL offer than Georgia is willing to make. That could be what ends up costing them in this recruitment, but at this point Jacobs has to know what Georgia's offer for him is.
Maybe Georgia upped their offer to be more on the level of Ohio State. Maybe Jacobs is second guessing his commitment to Ohio State in spite of Georgia's NIL offer and is thinking about staying close to home anyways. Regardless it is clear that he still has Georgia on his mind even just a little, and for Georgia they will take whatever they can get.
Georgia currently has the No. 9 recruiting class in the country. That isn't terrible, but it is still lower than where they'd like to be. Adding Jacobs to the fold would only slide them up one spot to No. 8, but his commitment could cause other players to rethink going to Georgia as well. Getting a talent like Jacobs though would be a huge win for Georgia regardless of what it does to their recruiting ranking.
Georgia has about three months left to convince Jacobs to ditch Ohio State and flip to them. At this point there is no reason for anyone to get their hopes up, but in recruiting anything is possible and that is especially the case with a coach like Kirby Smart when he goes after an in-state recruit.
