Georgia football unfortunately had one of their worst days of the year on the recruiting trail on Tuesday. Thankfully the Bulldogs did receive a prediction to land a four-star linebacker, but the Texas Longhorns proved to be too much to handle in multiple recruitments on Tuesday.
5-star LB Tyler Atkinson chooses Texas over Georgia
The biggest news of the day for Georgia on the recruiting trail came from five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. July 15 marked Atkinson's commitment date where he made his final decision between Georgia, Texas, Clemson and Oregon.
Unfortunately for Georgia, Atkinson announced his commitment to Texas. This did come as a surprise because many believed the Bulldogs were the team to beat for the past few months, but unfortunately it didn't work out for Georgia this time.
Georgia trending for 4-star LB Nick Abrams
Speaking of linebackers, Georgia did get some good news regarding one of their other linebacker targets on Tuesday. According to multiple recruiting experts, Georgia is now the leader for four-star linebacker Nick Abrams.
Abrams is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 16 between Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Michigan. Anything is still possible in this recruitment, but the expectation is for Georgia to earn a commitment from Abrams who is the No. 14 linebacker in the country according to 247Sports.
Texas steals 5-star UGA commit
Not only did Texas steal Atkinson from Georgia, but they also flipped five-star defensive lineman James Johnson from UGA on Tuesday as well. Johnson originally committed to Georgia on June 28, so after just two weeks Johnson already made the decision to flip to the Longhorns.
It's really unfortunate for Georgia to receive two pieces of bad recruiting news on the same day, but it's even worse that they both came at the hands of SEC rival Texas. Thankfully Georgia beat the Longhorns twice last season en route to their SEC Championship, so the Bulldogs do still have the upper hand on Texas for now.
