The football world may be focused on the NFL Draft right now, but Saturday marks a huge day for Kirby Smart and the Georgia football program.

Saturday is the day that five-star quarterback Elijah Haven is scheduled to announce his commitment, and they are one of his two finalists along with Alabama.

Haven is the No.1 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class as well as the No. 2 overall player, so it's clear how important this decision is for both Georgia and Alabama. But as his commitment inches closer it has become abundantly clear that Georgia is running out of time and Alabama is getting ready to pop some champagne.

Georgia and Alabama anxiously wait as 5-star QB Elijah Haven is ready to commit

A few weeks ago Haven announced three finalists in his recruitment. That included Georgia and Alabama as well as Auburn. But after a last second visit to Athens he decided to cut Auburn from contention and focus on Georgia and the Tide.

This looked like good news for Georgia, but in reality it didn't really matter. Even though he made this final visit to Athens, Haven has still been heavily leaning towards Alabama.

In fact, there are still multiple predictions in Alabama's favor on 247Sports that have been logged for weeks now. So while it is nice that Georgia made the final cut for Haven, it looks like they will finish in second place.

Crazier things have happened in recruiting before, so Georgia should still hold the tiniest sliver of hope. But no one should set their expectations too high as Alabama looks ready to welcome the top quarterback in the country to Tuscaloosa.

The good news for Georgia is that they already have a commitment from a No. 1 quarterback as well. Jayden Wade holds that title in the 2028 recruiting class and he has been committed to Georgia for a few months now.

So it looks like the Tide are going to get their future quarterback as well which sets these two elite programs up to continue battling on the field for years to come.
