Georgia baseball fans will be celebrating their perfect 3-0 weekend at the Athens Regional until they open up Super Regional play against Mississippi State this weekend.
Those celebrations however just got even better as No. 2 overall seed Georgia Tech was upset by Oklahoma and failed to get out of their regional. Not only did they lose to the Sooners, but they lost courtesy of a walk-off home run that was blasted over the outfield wall.

Sometimes watching a rival lose is just as enjoyable as watching Georgia win. That was especially the case on Monday after Tech had a comfortable 7-3 lead before giving up five straight runs to lose.
This phenomenon is called a “hate watch.” When you tune into a game solely to cheer against a team you are hate watching that game.
Hate watching is what makes college athletics so fun, and when a hate watch is as successful as it was during Georgia Tech’s game it will make fans want to do it all over again.
Thankfully they had that chance again as Florida played on Monday as well with a spot in the Super Regional on the line, and they too fell short in embarrassing fashion as well.
Georgia’s hate watch didn’t end with Georgia Tech’s loss
Florida opened up regional play just like Georgia did by starting 2-0. They then were matched up with a Troy team on Sunday where they had two attempts to beat them one time to advance to the Super Regional.
Instead of advancing like they should have, they ended up losing 16-11 on Sunday and 10-2 on Monday to be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

This marked the end of two successful hate watches for Georgia. On Monday they got to witness Georgia Tech blow a big lead and lose on walk-off home run before wathcing Florida get pummeled on their home field. It truly does not get any better than that.
Georgia earns new title after Georgia Tech loses in heartbreaking fashion
Seeing two rivals get bounced out of the NCAA Tournament while Georgia advanced in dominant fashion was already good enough. Georgia Tech's loss however is more significant for Georgia because it made the Bulldogs the highest seeded team left in the tournament.
Georgia Tech was the No. 2 overall seed while UCLA was the No. 1 overall seed. Both teams had better odds to win it all than Georgia, but they failed to get out of a regional they were heavily favored in.
Unfortunately for Georgia they will not benefit from an upset in the Super Regional as 14-seed Mississippi State advanced to take on the Bulldogs. They will come to Athens to face Georgia in a three-game series this weekend with the winner advancing to the College World Series.
Georgia and Mississippi State have already played four times this year, and Georgia actually won all four games. This includes a three-game sweep on the road and a victory in the SEC Tournament two weeks ago.
That should give Georgia a lot of confidence, but they will have a disadvantage they have to overcome in game one. But this team may just be the best team in the country, so they should expect to advance to the College World Series regardless.
