Georgia baseball is in the middle of one of the best seasons in program history. Not only did they win the SEC regular season championship, but they also won the SEC tournament for the first time in program history.
Georgia now enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 overall seed. This means they are one of the favorites to win a National Championships, but somehow there is one teams seeded lower than them with much better odds to win it all.
Georgia baseball's odds to win the National Championship make no sense
Both UCLA (+420) and Georgia Tech (+480) have better odds to win a National Championship than Georgia. Those are the two teams seeded higher than them so this is expected. Georgia however has the fourth-best odds at +1200 with the Texas Longhorns have the third-best odds at +800, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
Now how does that make any sense? Georgia and Texas didn't play this year, but the Bulldogs did win the SEC by 3.5 games over Texas who finished in second. On top of that, Texas didn't even make it out of the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament while Georgia went on to win it all.
One would assume that would be enough data for Vegas to give Georgia better odds than Texas, but that is not the case.
Vegas oddsmakers obsession with Texas has to be studied
What is it with Vegas and Texas. Vegas oddsmakers seem like they're in love with Texas in every sport right now when they really shouldn't be.
Not only do their odds for the college baseball National Championship make no sense, but their odds on the football field don't make a lot of sense either. Vegas, for the third year in a row, has Texas as the favorite to win the SEC in football. What happened the last two years? Georgia was the team who went on to win the SEC.
Georgia's rise to dominance in the SEC in baseball and football is special
Not only did Georgia win the SEC the last two years, but they beat Texas all three times they played during those seasons as well.
Vegas however doesn't seem to care enough about on field results. Georgia has proven to be the better team both on the football field and the baseball diamond but that somehow hasn't been enough to be the favorite in their eyes.
