Georgia baseball entered the NCAA Tournament with +1200 odds to win the National Championship. These were the fourth-best odds in the country which was a good enough reason for fans to be hopeful for a deep run.
So far Georgia has done everything they can to live up to that hype as they went 3-0 in the Athens Regional this weekend, winning all three games in convincing fashion. Vegas rewarded Georgia by improving their odds of winning a national title to +600, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but the Bulldogs still have the fourth-best odds even though the top two seeds in the tournament failed to advance to the Super Regional.

Vegas oddsmakers refused to reward Georgia as much as they should
What else does Georgia need to do to earn more respect from Vegas? They did exactly what they were supposed to do in the Athens Regional last weekend but that somehow wasn’t good enough to receive better odds.
Auburn, North Carolina and Texas all have better odds than Georgia at +500 even though they are all seeded lower than UGA. They also didn’t advance out of regionals as easily as Georgia did, but Vegas clearly doesn’t care about that.
There is one explanation that may explain this though because Georgia has the toughest opponent heading their way in the Super Regional round.
Georgia’s tough Super Regional opponent could explain troubling odds
Georgia may just have the most difficult opponent in the Super Regional. They are matched up with 14-seed Mississippi State who took care of business in the regional they hosted this weekend.
Even though they are the 14-seed, Vegas is extremely high on Mississippi State. They have the fifth-best odds to win a national title just behind Georgia at +1,000. The three other teams with better odds than Georgia however all face worse competition.
Auburn and North Carolina got a little lucky because the national seed they would’ve been paired with failed to advance. So Auburn gets to host Ole Miss while North Carolina will host USC. Texas wasn’t as lucky as they will face 11-seed Oregon, but Vegas is not high on the Ducks as they only give Oregon +2,000 odds to win the national title.
Not only does Georgia have a more difficult opponent than these three teams, but they will also be without star infielder Tre Phelps for game one this weekend. Phelps was controversially ejected after celebrating his two-run home run on Sunday and NCAA rules require a player to sit out the next game after being ejected.
Even if Georgia fans are convinced his ejection was the wrong decision there is nothing anyone can do. Georgia will have to win without Phelps in the lineup, but they have proven to be a resilient team all season who certainly won’t be afraid to play without him.
Georgia is a perfect 4-0 against Mississippi State so far this season, but none of those wins matter anymore. The only thing that matters is winning two of their three games this weekend and if they can do that Georgia will advance to the College World Seires for the first time since 2008.
