Four-star defensive back Seth Williams' commitment date is quickly approaching, unfortunately he can't seem to make up his mind.

Georgia and Clemson are the two finalists in his recruitment which they've been for quite some time, but after going back-and-forth between the two schools all summer he still can't decide where he wants to go. He is expected to commit on July 31, but a recent update to his recruitment shows that he still might not have any clue who he will be committing to on Friday.

Seth Williams recruitment could go either way

According to the report, Clemson and Georgia both believe they are going to win his recruitment. That means one of them are going to have their hearts broken, and Georgia has a good reason to think they will be the team that breaks Clemson's heart.

Williams originally planned to commit at the beginning of July. When that commitment date was approaching Clemson was the heavy favorite to win, but Williams shocked everyone by delaying his commitment. This was a clear sign that he wasn't ready to give up on Georgia, so Kirby Smart found some new life to cling on.

Fast forward to today and all of the predictions that were in Clemson's favor still exist. They however were all logged before he delayed his commitment, so they are as irrelevant as a prediction from a recruiting expert could be.

Georgia has as good of a chance to win this recruitment as Clemson does, and based on where their recruiting class stands right now they desperately need him to choose them.

Why a commitment from Seth Williams is the one thing Georgia needs most

Right now Georgia only has the No. 12 recruiting class in the country. They still have plenty of time to climb back up the rankings, but they need to start stacking some more commits to make that happen.

That is where Williams comes in because he would help Georgia move up the rankings if he did choose them. Georgia would only move up one spot to No. 11, but they would then be just one commitment away from climbing back inside the top 10.

Williams' commitment however is more important than just moving Georgia up the recruiting rankings. As of now Georgia only has one defensive back committed to their 2027 recruiting class. That commitment came from fellow Peach State recruit Adryan Cole who just chose Georgia over LSU, Florida and Ole Miss two weeks ago.

Georgia needs more than one defensive back in their recruiting class. Smart however is running out of time because a vast majority of the elite recruits in the 2027 class have already committed, so he either needs to win Williams' recruitment or he needs to start flipping players that are committed elsewhere.

In reality Smart needs to do both because he needs a few more defensive backs in his recruiting class, but it all starts with Williams who will officially decide between Clemson and Georgia on Friday, July 31.
