The preseason All-SEC teams were released on Friday, and Georgia football once again was one of the teams with the most selections across the entire conference. However, Georgia stood out the most on the special teams selections as UGA swept all six first team selections.

Georgia takes home all 6 All-SEC first team special teams selections

There are six positions on special teams that get selected on the All-SEC teams, and Georgia took home the first team selection for all six. This includes Brett Thorson at punter, Peyton Woodring at kicker and kickoff specialist and long snapper Beau Gardner. Wide receiver Zachariah Branch was also featured twice on this list as Georgia's specialist in the return game.

Having elite special teams is one of the most underrated attributes a football team can have as there are countless moments every game where special teams has a direct impact on the final score of the game.

The obvious is in the kicking game on field goals and extra points, but punting and kickoffs are just as important. A good punt or kick can pin the opposition deep in their own territory, but if done poorly they can give the opponent's offense an easy opportunity to score. So kicking as well as covering all punts and kicks is an extremely important part of every football game.

On top of these selections, Georgia also had four first team selections on defense as well. Unfortunately UGA didn't have any first team selections on offense, but they did have three on the second and third teams.

Georgia projects to be one of the top contenders in the SEC once again as the media voted Georgia the No. 2 team in their preseason poll. Texas was deemed the favorite, but if UGA's play on special teams is as good as people expect then that will be extremely helpful in knocking Texas off again this season.
