Georgia has their first SEC test of the season coming up as they travel to Arkansas for their SEC opener this weekend. "Test" may not be the word Vegas uses to describe this game though because they think Georgia is going to win with ease.
Vegas initially had Georgia favored by 21.5 points when they set their initial spread. That however has quickly ballooned much higher which shows increasing confidence in Georgia as this game approaches.
Georgia vs Arkansas betting odds are changing fast
It isn't uncommon for betting odds to change throughout the week, but it is rare to see big swings in spreads. That however is happening this week as Georgia is now favored by 24.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook.
A three point swing is substantial in betting odds. This indicates that Vegas and sports bettors thought the original 21.5 point spread was way off, so enough people bet on Georgia to cover that Vegas had no choice but to significantly change the odds.
So far this season Georgia is 2-0 against the spread. Their record against the spread ultimately doesn't matter, what matters most is that their overall record is 2-0. As long as Georgia beats Arkansas it doesn't really matter if they cover this spread or not, but there will be some alarms going off if Georgia does win a close game this weekend.
It however would be nice to win and cover this spread so Georgia's confidence can stay high heading into the Oklahoma game nexek.
Georgia could look much different against Arkansas this week
Arkansas will be Georgia's most difficult game up to this point in the season. Vegas clearly doesn't think it will be too challenging and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks this game will be close, but the Razorbacks on paper are better than Tennessee State and Western Kentucky who were the Bulldogs first two opponents this year.
Georgia won those games by 50 and 60 points. They were able to rest their starters for a majority of the game with players like Gunner Stockton who hasn't even played a down of football in the second half yet this season.
That will not be the case this week.
In theory Georgia could get up by so many points that Stockton and other starters don't need to play in the second half, but that's unlikely to happen. Regardless of the score it would be wise for Kirby Smart to keep Stockton and other starters in the game longer because starting next week their games will be competitive enough where they will need to play the entire game. So in order to ensure their conditioning is where it needs to be it makes sense to play them a lot more during this game.
Arkansas will probably keep this game closer than Georgia's first two opponents though, so instead of seeing the backups play a lot in the second half fans can expect to see a larger dose of Georgia's top players this week.
