Georgia football is gearing up for what is their first rivalry matchup of the season. The Auburn Tigers are up next for UGA, and this game has all the makings of being one of the biggest games of Georgia's season. ABC just announced that it will be a night game and the Tigers will be retiring Cam Newton's jersey during the game as well, so matchups truly don't get much bigger than this.

On top of all of the off the field hype, Vegas thinks this game will be extremely close. But how realistic is it to say this will be a close matchup?

College football expoert Josh Pate went as far as to say that the spread between Georgia and Auburn is one of th emost toxic lines in the SEC this week.

Georgia vs Auburn opening spread

Georgia football opened as a 4.5 point favorite over Auburn according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Pate didn't explain why he thinks this spread is toxic, but it seems like he thinks Georgia should be favored by more points.

Auburn enters Saturday's matchup at 3-2 after losing the last two times they took the field. To be fair to Auburn, those losses came on the road to Oklahoma and Texas A&M by one score, but they are coming into this game with as little momentum as possible.

Georgia on the other hand is riding high once again after beating Kentucky by 21 points on Saturday. They also have a lot of positives they took away from their loss to Alabama two weeks ago, with the fact that they held the Crimson Tide scoreless in the second half standing above everything else.

It will be interesting to see if this spread changes throughout the week or not. The Bulldogs on paper are much better than Auburn, but there are a few significant advantages in Auburn's favor as well.

Georgia and Auburn are scheduled to do battle on Oct. 11 at 7:30 pm EST.
