Georgia football is hours away from their 2025 season getting underway against Marshall. As one would imagine, the Bulldogs are massive favorites at home against a team like Marshall, but those betting odds have been chaging fast this week.
Georgia's spread is shrinking vs Marshall
At the beginning of this week, Georgia was a 39.5 point favorite against Marshall, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. That clearly indicates that Vegas thinks Georgia will win this game with ease. And while the public still thinks that is true as well, this spread has shrunk throughout the week.
As it stands the morning of Georgia's game against Marshall, the Bulldogs are now only a 38.5 point favorite according to FanDuel. So what does this adjustment tell Georgia fans?
While the spread shifting by one point isn't a crazy amount, it does shows that the public is liking Marshall more than Vegas originally thought when they set their initial spread. It does take a lot of action to force sportsbooks to adjust their spreads, so the public must have placed a lot of wagers on Marshall to cover this spread.
And according to data from Kirby Smart's tenure at Georgia, the public is smart to bet on Marshall. During Smart's era at Georgia, the Bulldogs are 0-12-1 against the spread when they are favored by at least 38 points. Sure UGA has still won all of those games, but they do not blow teams out this badly when Vegas predicts them to.
Will this trend continue or will Georgia finally be able to cover this large of a spread? Only time can answer that question, but there are a lot of reasons to be confident in Marshall being able to cover this spread even though the Bulldogs are clearly the better team at every position on the field.
