In just a couple days Georgia will take on Mississippi State in a three-game series with a spot in the College World Series on the line. Georgia hasn't made the College World Series since 2008, but this team is primed for a magical run to finally break that streak.

The Bulldogs are fortunate that they get to host this Super Regional series at home because Georgia fans are ready to give them as much of a home field advantage as they possibly can. Unfortunately Vegas oddmakes aren't convinced that will do them many favors this weekend as they named Georgia a tiny favorite over Mississippi State.

Vegas odds for Georgia vs Mississippi State severely dropped the ball

Was Vegas even paying attention at all this season? Because if they were then their odds for this weekend's series would probably be much different.

FanDuel Sportsbook did name Georgia the favorite to advance this weekend, but their odds to do so are only -178. Mississippi State conversely has +136 odds to advance to the College World Series.

These odds are about as close as they can possibly get. In fact, out of all eight teams predicted to advance Georgia is the team with the worst odds to do so.

It gets even worse when you only look at game one because Georgia only has -128 odds to win compared to Mississippi State's +100.

If Vegas was paying more attention this season they would see that Georgia and Mississippi State played four times already. Those four meetings all ended in a Georgia victory with three occurring at Mississippi State's home field and the fourth in the SEC Tournament.

It also isn't like Georgia struggled outside of these four games either. They won the SEC regular season and tournament championship and won three straight games in the Athens Regional last weekend with relative ease.

Vegas however thinks this series could go either way, but the results from this season indicate otherwise.

Georgia could change the perspective of Bulldogs baseball this weekend

Since making the College World Series in 2008 and finishing runner-up, Georgia has not been spectacular. They have only made the NCAA Tournament seven other times, and in those appearances they only made the Super Regionals once in 2024.

For a school that is very passionate about their baseball, this is not good enough. But all it takes is two victories this weekend to change the perspective of this program.

All Georgia needs to do is get to the College World Series, if they can do that then everyone will know that they are finally back. Everyone will know that 2008 wasn't a fluke and that CWS appearances are possible for this program.

Georgia obviously wants to do much better than just making the College World Series, but before they can dream bigger they need to get there first. And if any team is going to do rewrite the history books and get back to the CWS it is this team who has been doubted all season long and has just continued to prove everyone wrong.
