Georgia will take on the No. 6 overall seed Texas Longhorns in their first game of the College World Series on Saturday. Both Georgia and Texas are a perfect 5-0 so far in the NCAA Tournament which is why some people believe the winner of is game will have the best chance to go on to win the National Championship.
Vegas oddsmakers just released their opening odds for this matchup, and even though Georgia is the higher seed and won the SEC regular season and tournament championships they are an underdog to Texas.
Georgia vs Texas betting odds are impossible to explain
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Texas is a -138 favorite to beat Georgia on Saturday. Vegas does predict this will be an extremely close game as Georgia is a slight underdog with +108 odds, but Vegas somehow believes Texas is the team with the advantage.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
How does that make any sense? No one can deny that Texas has had a great season, but Georgia has had as good of a season as possible so far.
Not only did Georgia win the SEC regular season and tournament championship and start a perfect 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament, but they are the highest remaining seed left in the College World Series as well. That should be good enough to be the favorite against Texas, but it somehow wasn't.
Texas on the other hand has had a good season, but they have fallen short compared to Georgia. They finished in second place in the regular season SEC standings to Georgia by a whopping 3.5 games. Texas also failed to win one game at the SEC tournament after getting knocked out by 7-seed Arkansas which just so happens to be the team Georgia blasted 11-1 in the championship game.
Everyone knows this game will probably be close and that either team could win, but when will Georgia finally get the respect they deserve? They were given the worse odds to advance out of the Super Regional last week and ended up sweeping Mississippi State, but Vegas somehow still hasn't learned their lesson.
Georga's National Championship odds further prove they shouldn't be an underdog to Texas
The overall odds to win the College World Series show that Vegas is contradicting themselves a bit. If Texas is favored to win on Saturday then they should have better odds to win the National Championship, but that is not the case.
Georgia currently has +300 odds to win the National Championship which is second-best behind North Carolina. Texas however has slightly worse odds at +320.
So Vegas believes that Texas will beat Georgia on Saturday but UGA will still be team to advance to the National Championship series. While that scenario is possible it is extremely unlikely because Georgia would have to win four games in a row (which includes two wins against this Texas team) if they lose on Saturday.
So which is it Vegas? Is Georgia the favorite like they should be or is Texas? These odds don't add up at all, but at the end of the day that just confirms how tight this matchup will be on Saturday.
First pitch between Georgia and Texas is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 at 8:00 pm EST. This will be the first meeting between Georgia and Texas this season.
