Just a few days ago five-star defensive back Donte Wright turned his back on Georgia and flipped his commitment to Miami. No one needs to be told how devastating this is for Georgia because of how highly ranked and talented he is, but things keep happening that make his decommitment feel even worse.
Losing his commitment sent Georgia spiraling down the recruiting rankings. In fact, they fell all the way to No. 31 in the country in the 247Sports rankings. Sure it is only May so that really doesn't matter all that much, but seeing Georgia that low any time of the year isn't ideal.
Miami on the other hand saw a meteoric rise in their ranking after Wright flipped to them as they jumped seven spots all the way to No. 5 in the country, according to Rivals.

Miami surged while Georgia tumbled in the updated recruiting rankings after Donte Wright flipped
Ever since Kirby Smart was hired Georgia has been at or near the top of the recruiting rankings every year. The Bulldogs have only been outside the top five in the final rankings twice, and one of those times occurred with his first recruiting class which can't really be held against him.
Georgia still has plenty of time to get back inside the top five, but every day that goes by without some movement will make accomplishing that even more difficult.
It's one thing for Georgia to fall in the rankings, but seeing Miami climb so high is extra frustrating. They have been one of the few teams in the country who have had Georgia's number on the recruiting trail as they've stolen a few commits from them over the last few years. They also beat out Georgia for five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell last year and notoriously took Carson Beck as well.
While Miami is in a completely different conference, seeing them benefit so much at Georgia's expense is extremely frustrating.
But to take that frustration one step further, Wright already announced that his recruitment is shut down just days after committing to Miami. For those keeping track at home, he was committed to Georgia for 10 months but was unwilling to do that.
What's next for Georgia football after Donte Wright flipped his commitment to Miami
Smart and Georgia have a lot of work in front of them. They only have six commits in their 2027 recruiting class now, so they have to make some moves at pretty much every position. But that is especially the case at defensive back.
Not only did Georgia lose Wirght's commitment, but they lost Jerry Outhouse's commitment just a few days prior as well. Outhouse is a top 100 player in the country who chose to flip to UCLA of all schools, so Georgia's secondary went from very strong to nonexistent.
The good news for Georgia is that official visit season begins soon. This usually is when Smart is at his best and is able to earn a lot of commitments from many elite players in the country.
That however is never a guarantee, so until more recruits are added to Georgia's recruiting class losses like Wirght and Outhouse are going to sting.
