Georgia's recruiting class is not where anyone wants it to be. Sure it is only May, but they only have six commits and are ranked No. 31 in the country.
That is not good enough, and everyone knows it.
Kirby Smart and his staff need to do a lot to improve this ranking, but there are three positions that stand out the most that they need to prioritize right now.
1. Defensive back
Georgia's secondary needs some help fast. The Bulldogs had two elite recruits already committed to their recruiting class in the secondary, but they have both backed off of those commitments and flipped elsewhere.
The most recent was five-star Donte Wright who flipped to Miami just last week.
As it stands today Georgia does not have a commitment from a defensive back right now. Normally that wouldn't be a huge cause for concern, but the fact that they lost two very talented players already makes this a position Georgia needs to add to as soon as possible.
2. Quarterback
Quarterback is an interesting position for Georgia in the 2027 recruiting class because they have a commitment from the No. 1 QB in the 2028 class in Jayden Wade. The future of their current quarterback room also appears to be very healthy after Gunner Stockton is done as well.
But Georgia still needs to add a quarterback in the 2027 class, and the sooner they do that the better.
Quarterbacks tend to be the player that recruiting classes rally around the most. They also are the position that for whatever reason commit sooner than most other positions. So the longer Georgia goes without adding a quarterback the most their recruiting class could suffer.
3. EDGE
EDGE arguably is the most important position on Georgia's defense. The best teams under Smart over the years have been led by elite players on the EDGE who have gone on to dominate in the NFL.
That is a trend that needs to continue, but as of today Georgia does not have a single EDGE committed to their recruiting class.
This needs to change in a hurry as Georgia always needs to hit a home run at this position if they want to continue dominating the SEC.
