Jalon Walker wins another major weekly award
There were so many elite performances from Georgia on Saturday night in their upset win over No. 1 Texas. We all could probably name at least 20 players and coaches who really stood out on Saturday night.
But arguably the player who stood out the most was linebacker Jalon Walker.
There really aren’t words to describe just how great Walker was against Texas where he finished with eight tackles, three sacks and a recovered fumble. The best way to express how great this performance was is the fact that he was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
On top of that, Walker is the first player in over 20 years in college football to register at least seven tackles and three sacks against the No. 1 team in the country.
But to take it to the next level, Walker just won yet another award for his dominant performance against Texas.
Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week
Walker is this weeks winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week. This is an award that gets handed out at the end of the season, and the committee describes the award as follows:
”The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.”
Walker beat three other nominees this week for this award, including Tennessee DB Will Brooks, South Carolina DB Nick Emmanwori, and Iowa State DB Jontez Williams.
Walker will certainly be in the running for this award at the end of the season, but winning the weekly version of this award is no small feat. Sure it’s unlikely he’ll have this great of a performance statistically again the rest of the season, but it is awesome to see Walker rewarded for being as great of a player and person that we all know he is.
