Every college football fan in the world knows that five-star quarterback Jared Curtis announced his commitment to Georgia on Monday. UGA landing the No. 1 QB in the country is reason enough for this to be the best moment of the offseason for Georgia, but there were some unforgettable moments surrounding this commitment that made it that much better.

Here are three of those moments that happened behind the scenes that shed some light on the person Curtis is and why this commitment was so special and unique.

How Curtis told his family

After committing to Georgia, Curtis shared the moment that he told his family what his final decision was. This took place on Sunday, when he simply texted his family in a group chat and told them to wear Georgia stuff tomorrow.

But before sending this message, he told his dad to record his moms reaction, which surely was an amazing moment for her and Curtis’s entire family. There’s no chance that video is ever shared publicly, but capturing that moment on video will definitely be a core memory for the Curtis family for the rest of their lives.

Jared Curtis pranked Kirby Smart

Not only did Curtis tell his family his final decision on Sunday, he also called Kirby Smart to inform him that he was picking Georgia as well. But instead of just telling him his decision, he first acted like he was committing to Oregon and was sharing bad news with Smart.

That joke apparently only lasted a few seconds before Curtis came clean, but it’s funny to imagine what Smart was thinking in that moment. But good on Curtis for pulling that prank, because this is probably the only time in his career Smart won’t care that he was on the wrong end of a joke.

Fastest commitment ever?

Did anyone notice how fast Curtis committed on Monday? His commitment was scheduled for 5:30, but usually the player and school will build up the announcement before their commitment is shared meaning they won’t commit for at least a few minutes.

But that’s not what Curtis did. Curtis took no more than 20 seconds from the moment the microphone was handed to him to share his decision. This data isn’t tracked, but it’s possible this was the fastest commitment ever from a five-star player in the history of recruiting.
