Last December former five-star quarterback Jared Curtis flipped his commitment from Georgia to Vanderbilt right before signing day. This was horrific news for Georgia at first, but as time has gone on it turned out that this really wasn't that big of a deal.
That realization was taken to a new level on Thursday after word came out that Curtis is starring in a new Nate Bargatze movie.

Jared Curtis made sure that Georgia doesn't regret losing his commitment
Kirby Smart has made it very clear that he does not want players at Georgia who prioritize NIL. So how do you think he would feel about players acting in a movie? Probably not very good.
This is especially the case for a true freshman who is yet to take a collegiate snap. It would be pretty crazy for any college athlete to appear in a movie, but if anyone was going to it should probably be a well established veteran who is one of the biggest stars in college football. The last person who should do it is a true freshman.
Curtis also will more than likely be the starting quarterback for Vanderbilt this fall as well. So shouldn't he be spending all of his time getting ready to lead his team? That's what most people would probably do, but Curtis has other things that are clearly more important to him.
This role in the movie was reportedly part of Curtis's NIL package that swayed him away from Georgia. And with that being the case it is clear that no one at Georgia should feel sad about losing his commitment.
Georgia is much better off without Jared Curtis
Georgia was just fine without Curtis even before this news broke. Gunner Stockton was always going to be the starter this fall and the Bulldogs' backup quarterbacks shined all spring long. Sure it may have been nice to have a talent like Curtis competing for the starting job next year when Stockton is gone, but Georgia appears to have plenty of options that will be ready to go.
On top of that, Georgia also has a commitment from five-star quarterback Jayden Wade who is the No. 1 QB in the 2028 recruiting class. So while Curtis was the original plan to be Georgia's future at quarterback, that title now belongs to Wade who is just as good if not better.
Georgia even found a solid replacement for Curtis in the 2026 class as well. Smart went and snagged Bryson Beaver from Oregon out of the Transfer Portal this offseason who was the No. 12 QB in the 2026 recruiting class, so they even found a really good replacement for him who is the same age.
But the final reason why Georgia is better off without Curtis may be the most important one, and that is the fact that Curtis cares way too much about his public image and NIL opportunities. Smart doesn't want his players to not care about these things, but he does want football to be their top priority and it's clear that isn't the case with Curtis.
No Georgia fan can deny at this point that Curtis leaving for Vanderbilt was a good thing, but anyone who still isn't sure will see just how big of a mistake he made when he leads the Commodores against Georgia in Athens later this season.
