Georgia football was originally scheduled to begin a home-and-home series with Louisville this season, but that series was canceled and Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm believes Georgia is to blame.
Louisville was set to host the first matchup this season with Georgia hosting the return game in 2027. According to reports, Georgia and Louisville mutually agreed to cancel this series and there has been no indication that they are working to schedule a future game.
Louisville instead will play Ole Miss in a neutral site game this year and when Brohm was asked how this game came about he ended up blaming Georgia for canceling their series, but his own words tell a different story.
"We had Charlotte, so Charlotte was the team we were supposed to play. We had been trying to add Ole Miss for a few years, we've been trying to add Tennessee at one point, we've been trying to add some tough Power Four opponents... We had Georgia this year and last year on our schedule and I'm supposed to say it was a mutual agreement (to cancel the series)."
Jeff Brohm, Louisville deserve blame for canceled series with Georgia too
Brohm didn't dive into why he thinks this game was canceled, but it's clear that he is putting all of the blame on Georgia. The individual interviewing him however said that Georgia must be scared to play them, and Brohm never denied that claim.
In reality Georgia likely canceled this series because the SEC is moving to nine conference games starting this season. Georgia already had four non-conference games scheduled for this season so they had no choice but to cancel one game, and since they already have Georgia Tech as a Power Four non-conference opponent they decided Louisville was the team to go.
Even though the official report is that Georgia and Lousiville mutually agreed to cancel this game it does seem likely that Georgia had more to do with it. They also canceled future games against NC State and Florida State before scheduling a neutral site game against the Seminoles in 2028, so UGA has a history of canceling series.
Louisville however isn't completely innocent. Brohm himself said they've had issues scheduling games with many different Power Four teams and it seems like he wants to blame every other team for why they aren't being scheduled even though Louisville is the common denominator.
But to even suggest for one second that Georgia canceled on them because they are scared is completely ridiculous.
Let's not pretend Georgia is suddenly scared to play Louisville
There are only a few teams out there that are on Georgia's level, Louisville is not one of those teams. Louisville is a middle of the pack ACC team while Georgia is the current top dog in the best conference in the sport, so there is no logical reason why Georgia would be scared of them.
Louisville also doesn't have any success against Georgia to point to as a reason why they could be scared. These programs have only met once in their history at the 2014 Belk Bowl, a game Georgia won with relative ease 37-14.
Louisville has every right to be upset that this series was canceled, but to blame Georgia because they are scared is ridiculous. Kirby Smart hopefully will see this and do everything he can to get a future game back on the schedule because it would feel amazing to beat Louisville by three scores after these asinine comments.
