Jon Sumrall's bold declaration proves the Florida-Georgia rivalry is officially back

Wednesday marked day three of SEC Media Days, and Georgia once again was a major taking point when they weren't even present. The Bulldogs day with the media was on Tuesday, so they clearly were in the news all day then, but even on Monday they were constantly being talked about too.

That was no different on Wednesday as Florida head coach Jon Sumrall mentioned Georgia a few times throughout the day. Most notably though was when he said that right now he cares the most about beating Georgia, so maybe this rivalry will finally become competitive again.

Jon Sumrall tried to intimidate Georgia with one simple message

Sumrall is clearly tryng to send a message to his team and to Georgia. He first is trying to tell his team that they are done laying down to Georgia. He is tired of seeing them lose to Georgia every single season, and his biggest goal at the start of his tenure is putting a stop to that.

Sumrall is also warning Georgia that he will be different from all the Florida head coaches that have come before him. He doesn't believe that they took Georgia as seriously as they should have and that's why they kept losing to them.

Georgia however won't be intimidated by Sumrall. All offseason Florida fans have been proclaiming that their program is back because they are building a solid recruiting class, but all Georgia has done is steal top recruits from them.

Sumrall clearly will have Florida ready when the battle in Atlanta this season, but Kirby Smart will have Georgia ready too and so far throughout his career that has almost always been enough to guarantee a victory.

Georgia won't entertain Jon Sumrall until he earns it on the field

Since Smart became head coach in 2016 the Bulldogs are 8-2 against Florida. This includes a loss in Smart's first ever meeting against the Gators in 2016, so since then he is 8-1.

Smart has coached against three different Florida head coaches which makes Sumrall the fourth. Every head coach began their stint at Florida with a lot of hype just like Sumrall is, but things never worked out for them. In fact, they were never even close to turning Florida around and competing with Georgia.

So why would anyone at Georgia think it will be different this time? Easy answer, they shouldn't.

Georgia will always take Florida seriously, that's why they've continued to dominate this rivalry even though the Gators have been so bad. But Georgia will not be scared to play Florida. They will not be intimidated by them just because Sumrall cares so deeply about beating them.

If anything this is just going to make the rivalry even more exciting, but Sumrall and Florida have to prove it on the field before Georgia will be worried about them.
