Josh Pate's SEC sleeper team will have Georgia dying laughing

Georgia is the new favorite to win the SEC after the media and Vegas both crowned them the No. 1 team in the conference entering this season. That however doesn’t mean it will be easy for Georgia to repeat as champions.

Texas, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Alabama are the most likely teams to knock Georgia from their throne this season. If either of those teams do it really wouldn’t be that big of a surprise, but there are some sleeper teams who could make some noise too.

On3’s Josh Pate believes one of those teams who could shock the SEC is Florida, but no Georgia fan will think that is possible.

Georgia fans won’t be able to contain themselves after Josh Pate’s take on Florida

Every year it seems like Florida is labeled as one of the sleeper teams in the SEC, and every year they fall short of meeting those expectations. These expectations always seem to reach a new high whenever they hire a new coach, so it’s not surprising to see people more confident in them now than they usually are.

But why do they deserve this hype? Is it really just because the vibe “feels different” around the program?

That’s hardly a good enough reason to think a team will contend in the SEC, but apparently it’s enough for Pate. Georgia fans know that the chances Florida is any better with Jon Sumrall is very low, so until they prove it on the field no one should think they have a chance to compete in the SEC.

The more hype Florida gets the better it is for Georgia

From Georgia’s perspective maybe it isn’t a bad thing that Florida is getting all of this hype. Georgia has beat Florida five years in a row and it doesn’t look like they are going to slow down anytime soon. So if Florida gets more hype that would make Georgia’s potential victory against them this fall look that much better.

Florida fans have been bragging that their team is back all offseason based on their solid recruiting class. They have every right to be happy with their recruiting, but Georgia has still gotten the better of them.

The only recruit Florida has actually taken from Georgia is running back Andrew Beard, but Georgia has five-star Kemon Spell so that never felt like much of a loss. Georgia also flipped elite offensive lineman Kennedee Jackson from Florida, so they have had the upper hand in head-to-head recruiting this summer.

That still hasn’t stopped Florida fans and the media from hyping Florida up though even if they don’t deserve it. But Georgia should want that to happen because the better people think they are the more impressed they’ll be if (when) Georgia beats them again this fall.
