Since when has caring been a bad thing?

Georgia basketball is off and running this season as they are off to one of their best starts in program history. Mike White and the Bulldogs started their season with an impressive 12-1 non-conference record, but that great start took a hit last week when Georgia lost their SEC opener to Ole Miss.

That loss created a lot of doubt in this team because the Rebels were one of the few quality opponents Georgia had played this season. But those doubts were eliminated immediately as Georgia upset No. 6 Kentucky on Tuesday 82-69.

This win was massive for Georgia for so many reasons, but the most important thing of all is that the Bulldogs announced that they are a legit NCAA Tournament team, which is something they haven’t qualified for in a decade.

And while most would assume this would be the biggest talking point from this game, a viral moment from Kentucky basketball player Otega Oweh occurred when he was caught embarrassing himself while shooting a free throw towards the end of the game.

Since when is caring about a game a bad thing?

Oweh was caught saying “this y’all Super Bowl” as Georgia was putting the finishing touches on their upset win over the Wildcats on Tuesday. And for those of you who don’t know what this saying means, Oweh is attempting to make fun of Georgia for treating this game like it’s the most important game of the season.

What a weird thing to make fun of someone for after suffering a double digit loss to that team. Since when has really caring about winning a game or beating an opponent been a bad thing? Most reasonable people would argue that this is the correct mindset for an athlete to have, so it’s strange that Oweh thinks this is a bad thing.

As someone who was never a college athlete, judging his character and motivation is the last thing that will ever be said in this blog. But maybe, just maybe if Oweh and his teammates cared more about winning then Kentucky wouldn’t have lost this game in the first place.
