ESPN’s College GameDay was at Vanderbilt this last weekend for their matchup against Missouri. Since Georgia was on a bye it wasn’t expected that the crew would talk about the Bulldogs this week, but that wasn’t the case.
Georgia’s recruitment of five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis dominated the news this past weekend as he made a surprise trip to Vanderbilt. This trip ultimately meant nothing as he was there to support a teammate thinking about playing for Vanderbilt, but the media were chomping at the bit thinking he was going to ditch Georgia and flip to the Commodores.
This includes the College GameDay crew who were pandering to the home crowd by bringing up Curtis potentially flipping to Vanderbilt three times during their show on Saturday.
Kirby Smart was asked about this during his press conference on Monday, and while he can’t specifically talk about recruits he made it clear that he didn’t appreciate it.
“I don’t get caught up in it much… We just recruit the best we can… And trust them for what they tell us and not get into gimmicks and propaganda stuff.”

Kirby Smart voices extreme frustration with College GameDay
College GameDay is meant for entertainment. Sure they provide analysis and will break down games at times, but their main purpose is to entertain the people watching their show. They are especially there to entertain the home crowd of whatever school they are visiting.
This past week they visited Vanderbilt which was horrific timing based on everything going on with Curtis’s recruitment. So GameDay unsurpingly used that to their advantage and got the home crowd riled up over the thought of Curtis potentially flipping to the Commodores. Smart was clearly unhappy that they did this, and he has every right to be because GameDay never talks about recruiting. But it appears they attempted to flip Curtis’s recruitment Vanderbilt’s way which is taking things a little too far.
Thankfully Curtis stated that he isn’t ditching Georgia, but it’s a shame that GameDay got involved with something they never should have even brought up.
